How to Plan the Perfect 5-Day Itinerary in San Pedro

Five days is the sweet spot for a San Pedro itinerary. Long enough to slow down properly. Short enough that every day still feels like a treat.

The secret is not to overplan. Pick one big thing a day, then leave the rest open for your pool, a nap, and whatever the island throws at you. Here’s how we’d spend it.

Before you go: two things to book ahead

  • Your reef trip. Snorkel tours to Hol Chan fill up, especially from January to April. Book a few days out.
  • Your golf cart. Have it waiting when you arrive. Your concierge can help sort this before you land.

Everything else can happen on island time.

Day 1: Land, unpack, float

You’ll arrive in San Pedro by a short hop from Belize City, or by water taxi if you’d like the scenic route. Either way, the first afternoon has one job: get in the pool.

Afternoon

  • Drop your bags and find your swimsuit.
  • Grab a few basics from the grocery store inside the village. Fruit, coffee, a cold Belikin or two.
  • Claim your lounger.

Evening

Watch the sun go down over the lagoon. Mahogany Bay sits on the west side of the island, so the sunsets are yours. Keep dinner easy and stay in the village tonight. You’ve earned an early night.

Day 2: The reef

This is the big one. The Belize Barrier Reef runs right along Ambergris Caye, and the best snorkelling is close.

Morning

Start with fry jacks. These puffy fried dough pillows are the Belizean breakfast, served with eggs, beans and a drizzle of honey if you like. Head into town early for a seat at one of the beachfront breakfast spots or stay in the village and enjoy a breakfast at The Poolclub.

Then meet your boat for Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. Most tours combine the two. You’ll float over coral, turtles and schools of bright fish, then slip in beside gentle nurse sharks and stingrays. Morning trips usually have calmer water.

Afternoon and evening

Back to your villa, salty and happy. Rinse off, nap, swim. Tonight, try a seafood dinner in town. If it’s lobster season (June 15 to February 14), order the grilled lobster. No debate.

Day 3: Slow day at the villa

Every good trip needs a day with no plan at all.

  • Sleep in. Really.
  • Make breakfast in your villa kitchen and eat it on the deck.
  • Read by the pool. Swim. Read again.
  • Walk over to The Poolclub for a late lunch.

If your crew wants to celebrate something, this is the night for it. Ask your concierge about arranging a private chef. Dinner on your own deck, by candlelight, with nobody needing to drive home.

Day 4: Beach club day

Today you trade the pool for sand.

Morning

The boat shuttle to Mistico Beach Club leaves from the village marina. It’s about 15 minutes over turquoise water, and it’s a great part of the day on its own. Make sure to book it ahead so you get on your preferred ride.

Stays of three nights or more include: A complimentary boat shuttle for every guest, plus a complimentary drink and VIP service at Mistico Beach Club.

Afternoon

Lunch with your toes in the sand. Paddle, swim, doze in the shade. Head back in time for a sunset swim in your own pool.

Evening

Take the golf cart into San Pedro for dinner and a wander. Front Street is lively in the evening, with music drifting out of the beach bars.

Day 5: North island adventure

Save your final full day for exploring.

Morning

Pack the cart with water, sunscreen and a snack and head north across the bridge. The road gets quieter and bumpier the farther you go, and the island feels wilder. Stop wherever looks good.

Divers and keen snorkellers can swap this for a trip to Mexico Rocks, a shallow coral garden north of town that’s lovely and calm.

Afternoon

Pick up souvenirs in town. Hot sauce makes a great gift, and Marie Sharp’s is the one Belizeans grow up with.

Evening

Your last night. Grill on the deck, open something cold, and toast the trip. Then one more swim under the stars.

A few timing tips

  • Go early. Breakfast spots, reef boats and the bakery are all better before 9.
  • Midday is for the pool. The sun is strongest between 11 and 2.
  • Keep one day empty. Weather changes plans on any island. A free day lets you move things around.
  • Stay longer if you can. Five days is great. Seven nights saves you 10% when you book direct.

San Pedro itinerary FAQs

Is 5 days enough for a San Pedro itinerary?

It’s plenty for the highlights: the reef, the beach club, town and a slow villa day. Want to add the Blue Hole or a sail to Caye Caulker? Stretch it to seven nights and save 10% kicks in when you book direct.

What should I book before I arrive?

Your reef trip, your golf cart and any private chef night. Book the Blue Hole well ahead too, since boats go out on set days. Your concierge can help with all of it.

When is the best time of year for this itinerary?

December to April is dry and sunny, and the busiest time. May and June are hotter and quieter, with good value. In the rainy season, keep Day 3 flexible so you can swap days around the weather.

Now you just need somewhere to come home to each night. Have a look at villas with open dates at M&B Luxury Villas and find the one that fits your crew.
